Sulfurous acid preparation
Sulfites are obtained by burning sulfur to produce sulfur dioxide, which is then absorbed twice in an absorption tower.
Equipment used to prepare sulfites includes combustion furnaces, coolers, absorption towers, water pumps and fans. Sulfur blocks are burned in the combustion furnace to produce sulfur dioxide gas. The mixture of air and sulfur dioxide passes through the cooler and enters the absorption tower. It is mixed and reacted with water to produce sulfites. The exhaust gas is discharged out of the equipment through a fan.
