Statistics of Cassava Starch Imports by Country
From January to April 2026, China's cassava starch imports mainly came from Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. Specifically, imports from Vietnam were 955,300 tons, accounting for 51.58% of the total; from Thailand, 536,400 tons (28.96%); from Laos, 326,000 tons (17.60%); from Cambodia, 31,800 tons (1.72%); and from Indonesia, 1,400 tons (0.07%).
Current Market Status
Regarding the overseas market, fresh cassava raw material supply remains tight, leading to a continuous decline in starch production in Thailand and Vietnam. Currently, Thai cassava starch FOB (Bangkok) is quoted at $560-$600/ton, and Vietnamese CNF is quoted at $525-$540/ton.
In the domestic market, raw cassava prices are resistant to falling, and overseas suppliers still have the motivation to support prices, keeping import costs high. After May, major downstream industries like vermicelli enter the traditional off-season, with low operating rates, resulting in weak demand-pull. Rising overseas prices increase import costs, while domestic ports continue to draw down inventory. Cassava starch market prices will seek a balance between high-cost support and cautious demand, and are expected to remain firm in the short term.
